About Truman High School
School Description
Harry
S Truman High School was opened in 1973 as a combined High School and
Middle School. The original school physical plant was designed using
the Open School concept. Open School has different definitions,
including open concept schools (classrooms without walls). This concept
was the vision of school leaders at the time Harry S Truman High School
was built.
After
several years of operation using the Open Schools concept and a
configuration as a combined senior/middle school, Taylor School
District leaders decided to change Harry S Truman (HST) as a stand
alone high school. In addition, district leaders began the process of
installing walls within the building, creating individual classrooms
that continued to be the current school configuration.
Harry
S Truman High Schools student population is 1,697 students in grades
nine through twelve, with most students residing within the Taylor
School Districts enrollment boundaries. The Taylor School District and
Harry S Truman High School have not participated in a school of choice
program since the 2005-06 school year.
HST
is a comprehensive academic high school providing educational programs
in Art, Business, English, Industrial Technology, Junior ROTC, Living
